The Lone Figure - Tommy Tran

Written from “Down the Road”

Everywhere is white

The summer of 1971 was sweltering, so hot that the road in the distance blended into a single, fuzzy point — a heat that has captured countless lives.

Dying of dehydration

A black woman walked, alone, her eyes steady, determined to reach the end of the road. Her torn clothes were drenched with sweat, and yet — she kept moving forward.

And as she’s falling

She must keep walking.

The world turns black.
