Flaming Flowers - Kayla Puffer

i am from shattered bottles

from utility tanks and concrete benches

however, my legacy is anything but concrete

where i once lived, worked, and played

swallowed by the flames of hatred

reminding me of my ancestors who picked cotton

they are long gone, but anything but forgotten

purple petunias have risen in its place

as should we, a united front

time to stop pulling these stunts

once shackled, but not truly free

do not be afraid to tell the story of me
